Trip 16 Carp Fishing – 2024

With another day free, I was off to the lake for a few hours. The weather conditions weren’t brilliant, plus it was Friday and the weekend boys would be about. I planned to keep away from those swims and try something different. When I was here the other day, the carp arrived from around the corner, so this time I’ve positioned myself around that corner. Admittedly, the closest I can get is about 4 rod lengths away as there’s a bed of lily pads in between. However, they were moving up from this end and not the other one. They appear to like the wind, which is a shame as it’s still from the north and very much in my face. Ian is due down with his new bait boat at some point. He has a couple of options on either side of me or along the field bank, plus there’s still a swim available at the far end.

I’ve put two rods by the corner. However, I fancied trying single hook baits as everyone puts in bait, especially there. I’m sure it’s a popular spot. I believe the carp will visit there regularly and with any luck a single hookbait may just tempt them today.

The third rod is along the left-hand margins just off the lily pads, with three large pouchfuls of micro pellets with just my hook bait.

It’s just 1500 hrs, the day warmed up, but the carp didn’t come out to play. Despite spotting a few close to my baits, they were just not that interested. I really did feel that something would be about today. Oh well.

Until next time,

Richard

“Being Prepared: A Guide to Responsible Angling”

“Being Prepared: A Guide to Responsible Angling”

Introduction: In the world of fishing, being prepared is not just a matter of convenience; it’s a responsibility towards the well-being of the fish we catch. Richard sheds light on his meticulous approach to preparation, emphasizing the importance of fish safety and efficient capture documentation. Join him as he unveils the key elements of a well-prepared angling setup.

Chapter 1: “Organizing Weighing and Photography Equipment” Richard starts by highlighting the significance of organizing weighing and photography equipment. From a Saber Fishing Weigh Tripod with an attached underwater diving light for nighttime photographs to a strategically positioned tripod for optimal light angles, every detail is considered. The objective is clear: to ensure a smooth process when capturing and documenting the catch.

Chapter 2: “A Well-Equipped Weigh Tripod” Delving into the details of his weigh tripod setup, Richard provides insights into its design and functionality. The addition of an underwater diving light adds a unique element, facilitating clear and striking nighttime photographs. This thoughtful preparation reflects Richard’s commitment to capturing memorable moments while prioritizing fish safety.

Chapter 3: “The Ready-for-Action Set-Up” With a Fox bucket filled with water always at the ready, Richard underlines the importance of providing a suitable environment for the fish, especially during warmer months. The unhooking mat and weigh sling are strategically positioned for swift and efficient use. A bank stick with a cord ensures a quick attachment for retaining fish in the water when necessary, demonstrating a proactive approach to potential multiple takes.

Chapter 4: “Prioritizing Fish Safety” Emphasizing the need for responsible angling, Richard’s preparations aim to minimize stress on the fish. The readiness to use lake water for the bucket and the efficient handling of the fish, from unhooking to weighing and photographing, reflect a commitment to fish safety. These practices contribute to the overall well-being of the fish population in the lakes he frequents.

Chapter 5: “A Guide for Fellow Anglers” Concluding with a message for fellow anglers, Richard shares his insights into responsible angling. His meticulous preparations serve as a guide for those who seek not only successful captures but also an ethical and fish-friendly approach to the sport. By being prepared, anglers can enhance their fishing experience while prioritizing the welfare of the aquatic ecosystem.

Outro: Until next time, remember to be prepared, fish responsibly, and capture those memorable moments on the bank.

Trip 15 Carp Fishing – 2024

6 Hours

Estate Lake

With the wife away this week, I’m limited to days only. I’ve also squeezed in an extra gardening job to make life simpler next week.  This gives me two free days this week.

I arrived at about 08:45, to find out I was the third of the four anglers booked today. Two guys were along the bank where I fished on my last trip.  They were fishing across to the lily pads, which ruled out that end, but the other half of the lily bank was free, giving me three swims that I really fancied giving a go. It was the last of the three that took my fancy, as I’d seen carp in that area before.

It was a lovely secluded swim, until the north wind blew in my face, which may not be pleasant later on when it picks up. I’ll be glad of the extra clothing I packed.

This swim gave me both margins to fish, plus the option to put a rod in an open water spot.

I set up as stealthily as possible, flicked the rods out onto the spots, catapulted a few pouches of 11mm Catalyst Pellets out, and then sat back in my chair, planning on not moving until I got a bite.

Just before noon, I moved the left-hand rod further into the bay towards the reeds that were in there, I had seen a couple of carp rolls close to that spot.  I didn’t know if I needed to be even closer, which would be problematic as a tree was in the way. But I’m confident these carp must move around the pads and away from the reeds. We all know they love reeds and don’t always venture out. I can only hope, as this is the only sign of carp that I’ve seen so far.

It’s nearly 14:30, with the cold northerly wind is really pushing it to this swim. I’m starting to feel the cold despite being very bundled up. Sitting on a chair isn’t the best until the sun arrives for a few minutes. I’m going to try and hold out until 16:00. I promised the kids I’d be home by 17:00 to get dinner ready and take the eldest’s boyfriend home. I can only hope one of my rods rattles off soon.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be again today.

Until next time,

Richard
