“Margin Fishing – Rediscovering the Lost Art”

“Margin Fishing – Rediscovering the Lost Art”

Introduction: In the ever-evolving world of carp fishing, one angler, Richard, stands as a proponent of a method often overlooked in modern times – margin fishing. Through insightful experiences and a dedication to this close-quarters approach, Richard sheds light on the forgotten spots that hold the potential for thrilling encounters and exceptional catches.

Section 1: “The Lost Charms of Margin Fishing” Richard reminisces about the era when margin fishing was a revered technique, emphasizing its effectiveness and the adrenaline rush it provides. Despite the contemporary obsession with long-range tactics, he argues for the enduring appeal and success of fishing tight to the bank.

Section 2: “Homework and Stealth – The Foundations” Highlighting the key aspects of margin fishing, Richard stresses the importance of thorough preparation. Conducting pre-fishing reconnaissance with a lead helps identify potential snags and ensures a stealthy approach on the actual fishing day. He shares insights into the art of baiting, opting for a strategic combination of boilies, ground bait, and oil-soaked pellets.

Section 3: “The Tiny Swims Challenge” Richard navigates through the challenges posed by fishing in small swims. He describes the need for a compact setup, revealing his choice of a cut-down Diawa black widow rod and a Big Pit reel. The importance of instant response and control during the intense close-quarters battles becomes evident as he explains the modifications made to his equipment.

Section 4: “The Adrenaline Rush of Close-Quarters Fishing” Detailing the thrill of margin fishing, Richard walks readers through the exhilarating moments of lowering a bait into a confined spot. He discusses the advantages of using a pop-up rig and a specific lead setup to minimize disturbance and maximize hook-setting potential. The adrenaline rush, he argues, is unmatched in the world of carp angling.

Section 5: “Strategic Essentials and Efficiency” In the pursuit of efficiency during short sessions, Richard provides insights into the streamlined essentials he carries. While maintaining a focus on fish care with items like an unhooking mat and weight sling, he discards unnecessary gear to maintain agility and speed in moving between swims. The emphasis remains on strategic baiting and swift transitions.

Conclusion: Richard’s exploration of margin fishing unveils a world of untapped potential within close proximity to the bank. In an era dominated by advanced technologies and long-range tactics, he invites anglers to rediscover the lost art of margin fishing. The adrenaline, the thrill, and the strategic brilliance in these tiny swims, he argues, can elevate the angling experience to new heights.

As Richard continues to champion the cause of margin fishing, his experiences become a beacon for anglers seeking a return to the roots of this timeless art.

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
