It’s a place shrouded in mystery, and catching a 30 lb carp from its depths has been a goal I’ve been working towards for some time. Join me on this exciting journey as I recount the thrilling tale of landing that elusive 30-pounder.

The Airfield Lake – A Challenge Like No Other: The Airfield Lake is not your average fishing destination. Nestled in the heart of picturesque surroundings, it’s a water that demands patience, strategy, and a deep understanding of its enigmatic carp population. I’ve been fishing this lake for years, and it never fails to present new challenges.

Setting My Sights on a 30 lb Carp: For any angler, landing a 30 lb carp is a significant achievement. It’s a mark of both skill and dedication. So, with this goal firmly in my sights, I embarked on a journey to the Airfield Lake, determined to conquer this milestone.

The Perfect Setup: Preparing for this challenge required meticulous planning. I carefully selected my gear, ensuring everything was in top-notch condition. From my trusty rod and reel to the right line strength, every detail mattered. I also took time to consider my bait and rig choices, knowing that the carp in the Airfield Lake are known for their cunning.

The Right Location: Location is key in carp fishing, and after studying the lake’s patterns and the movement of its carp, I selected a promising swim. It was a spot that had shown signs of frequent carp activity, and I had a hunch that it might be the perfect place to land a 30-pounder.

Patience Pays Off: Carp fishing often requires hours of waiting, and this day was no different. I cast my line, settled into my bivvy, and began the patient wait. The anticipation was palpable as I watched the water’s surface for any sign of activity.

The Big Moment: As the sun dipped below the horizon, the water came alive with activity. My heart raced as I felt a powerful pull on my line. The battle was on! The carp put up an impressive fight, testing both my skills and my equipment. It was a true test of endurance, but I was determined not to let this opportunity slip through my fingers.

The Thrill of Victory: After what felt like an eternity, I finally caught sight of my prize. A magnificent 30 lb carp glimmered beneath the water’s surface, its sheer size taking my breath away. With a surge of adrenaline, I carefully netted the carp and hoisted it onto the bank. The feeling of accomplishment was indescribable.

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
