Bivvy Choose

Choosing the best carp fishing bivvy (a type of portable shelter or tent used by anglers) is crucial for a comfortable and successful fishing experience. Here’s a guide to help you select the right one:

1. **Size and Space:**
– Consider the size of the bivvy. It should provide enough space for you, your gear, and your bedchair or sleeping system.
– Look for a bivvy with an adequate height to allow you to move comfortably inside.

2. **Material and Durability:**
– Opt for a bivvy made from high-quality, durable materials like heavy-duty nylon or polyester.
– Ensure the seams are reinforced and taped to prevent leaks.

3. **Weight and Portability:**
– If you plan to move your bivvy frequently, choose a lightweight and compact option for easy transportation.
– Look for a bivvy that comes with a carry bag for convenience.

4. **Setup and Ease of Use:**
– Check if the bivvy is easy to set up and take down. Some bivvies have a pop-up or quick-erect design for rapid assembly.
– Consider a bivvy with color-coded poles or clear setup instructions.

5. **Ventilation:**
– Proper ventilation is essential to prevent condensation inside the bivvy. Look for options with multiple vents and mesh panels.
– Ventilation is crucial for comfort, especially during hot weather.

6. **Weather Resistance:**
– Ensure the bivvy can handle various weather conditions. Look for models with a hydrostatic head rating of at least 5,000mm to withstand rain.
– Consider a bivvy with a built-in groundsheet to keep moisture out.

7. **Stability and Wind Resistance:**
– A stable bivvy is crucial in windy conditions. Look for models with robust frame systems and tension straps.
– Some bivvies offer storm poles for added stability.

8. **Storage and Pockets:**
– Check if the bivvy has internal pockets for storing small items like your phone, keys, or fishing accessories.
– Some bivvies have rod straps or holders for convenient storage of your fishing rods.

9. **Zips and Door Configurations:**
– Ensure that the zippers are high-quality and easy to use. They should withstand frequent opening and closing.
– Consider the door configuration. Some bivvies have multiple doors for versatile access and improved airflow.

10. **Brand Reputation and Reviews:**
– Research brands with a good reputation for producing reliable carp fishing bivvies.
– Read reviews from other anglers to get insights into real-world performance.

11. **Budget:**
– Set a budget and look for a bivvy that meets your needs within that range. There are options available at various price points.

12. **Extras and Accessories:**
– Some bivvies come with additional features like a built-in porch, insect screens, or a heavy-duty groundsheet. Consider if these extras are important to you.

Remember that the best carp fishing bivvy for you ultimately depends on your specific needs, fishing style, and budget. Take the time to research and compare different models to find the one that suits you best, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable fishing experience.

I hope this helps

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
