Trip No 41 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am out for 24hrs this time, a whole day and then the night.  I need to be home by 10 Saturday morning as it’s Easter weekend and we have quite a bit on.

I was hoping to get on the top lake, unfortunately there are 3 other angler’s on there and I don’t wish to crowd the lake.  There is plenty of room on the other two, with the wind changing direction and a strong blow forecast.  I has a look round for an hour and a bit, I quite fancied the island swim as the wind would be pushing onto it.

But I was going to treat this as a day session first, as it was only just 0730 and I did not wish to marker around until this afternoon.  I would decide on the best approach, depending on what I had seen or not.

I set up home and flicked out both rod’s with Bait-Tech washed out poloni pop ups and Godman Angling mesh bag’s which had been soaking in Poloni oil for the past week.

At around 1430 it was time to start leading around.  With no fish action on the rod or in the lake, I opted to fish just off a nice 4 ft hump that dropped down to 6 ft.  I baited that up with 4 spombs of my Groundbait and a few had full’s of poloni boilies.  The other rod was either going to be of the side of the island which is the obvious choice or flicked left along the right hand margin as it dropped of to 7ft which was quite appealing.

The calm before the storm.  I had changed over my line as well this trip to Asso Fishing Line tetramax, as this part of the lake is full of bays and boulders for the fish to run along.

As the night progressed, the wind & rain arrived and I was feeling quite confident. However, I only had one beep in the night and by 9 am it was time to head home for a weekend with the family.

Until next time

Richard

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
