Trip No43 Carp Fishing (2014)

Day 1 and Night 1

This is it my view for the next 3 nights.  The lake is an amazing place to fish.  A big thank to my friend for the invite here.

All rod’s are being fished with pop ups and 360 rigs to combat the silk weed and very finicky fish that we are after.
Rod’s 1 & 2 are both fished into a bay area which has pads and rushes.  It also has a nice gravel bar running through the middle of it.

Rod 3 is straight out on to the other end of the bar which comes out of the corner.

And the fourth rod is up the right hand margin, fished on the drop off. I have spodded out a good helping of Bait-Tech boilies as normal.

I was amazed to wake in the morning without having a single fish.  The weather conditions had been perfect (through the day and into the evening), with strong S/W winds blowing and plenty of rain.

Day/Night 2

The lake was flat calm this morning, with a clear blue sky.  This was probably going to be a hot one, which is not very good for this lake.  However, after checking the weather forecast, there should be some cloud cover moving across this afternoon.

image

The morning past with no action, as promised by the weather man, the cloud arrived and the wind picked up again and down came the rain.  With these conditions things were looking good,  I had redone all the rod’s by mid morning.  I really needed to get the rod’s spot on the clear patches and with a little more leading around and some small adjustment, they were all perfect.

At around 8pm, rod 2 screamed into life, these fish really do fly off and after a quick battle, a lovely looking low double figured Common was safely in the net.  This was the only action overnight.

Day/Night 3

The lake was flat calm again when I woke up.  So on went the kettle and I spent the next few hour’s scanning the lake for carpy signs.  I did spot a few fish topping and bubbling around near my spots.  This gave me a bit of hope for the day ahead.

At around 10am the sun came out and full of heat.  And not far behind, the fish appeared on the top! Obviously getting the last of the warm sun before Winter appears.   They appeared from part of the lake which is unfishable,  due to the bankside vegetation.  However they driffed a lot closer and I was able to climb a tree to get a good look.  There was 1 group of around 12 fish in a nice shallow area the other side of a big set of lilly pads.  Unfortunately, the rain was back by 2pm, the wind had picked up and my fish spotting time was over for now.

Time to sit back with a brew and do some reading.

After the rain had cleared, it was a lovely evening and the odd carp topped.  It was looking very hopeful for the last night.  I had a funny take at around midnight which turned into nothing.  I also heard some fish top in the night.  This gave me more confidence, however by morning time I had had no action.  It was soon going to be packing up time and back to the real world again. I was just going to have to hope that the early morning feeding fish came my way.

No joy in the end, other than the small common.
Till next time
Richard

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
