2016 Targets

I am only going to set myself three targets this year and hopefully this will make me divide my time better. Don’t get me wrong, I did what I did last year to learn as much as possible about all lakes and river. I did do a fare bit of fishing & walking on the river and as much time as possible on the lakes.

In 2016, I am going to firstly try to catch a new PB pike from the river, this at the moment stands at under 25 lb.

My second target is a 40 lb+ carp. This is possible, depending on the number of angler pressure on that particular lake.

I don’t fancy predicting the future, as last year when I did my plan for 2015, I was not aware of what was happening at work and within six months I would go from UK & Ireland Operations Manager to house husband! This has turned out to be a very interesting and fun year with the family. I have never spent so much time with my children and I think my bond has grown with them. I was never there for them (really) due to working, travelling and fishing. I do feel sorry for the wife as the tables have turned.

2015 I was lucky enough to be able to spend 3 separate days between the school runs and a night out each week, I don’t think this will be that possible in 2016. But, being able to get out of that amount of time each week really helped my fishing.

My third target is to finally get a Barbel on the bank and I am really banging my head against a wall on this one. I really need to separate my fishing styles from lake to river, I am finding this impossible over the past few years that I have been hunting down a Barbel.

This year I hope I may have got my head around it more, we shall just have to see.

Good luck to you all in 2016

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
